HMRC's free filing service closed

Every limited company now needs commercial software to file its Company Tax Return.

Companies House goes software-only

The free web and paper routes close for accounts. Every set of accounts must be filed with software.

How it works

Questions you can answer, not forms you have to decode

  1. Answer the questions

We ask about your year in everyday language, a few at a time. Company details come straight from Companies House, and last year's figures carry forward.

  2. Check the preview

See your accounts, tax calculation and CT600 exactly as they'll be sent. Change anything you need to.

  3. Approve and we send it

Once you confirm, we submit to Companies House and HMRC and keep both receipts in your account.

Example question

During the year, did the company lend money to a director, or pay for something personal for one?

Why we ask: money a director owes the company at the year end can mean extra Corporation Tax under section 455, reported on the CT600A page. We work it out for you.

What's included

Both filings, every year, from one set of answers

Accounts for Companies House

Micro-entity and dormant accounts, tagged in the iXBRL format Companies House requires, ready for the April 2028 rules.

Company Tax Return for HMRC

The CT600, your tax computation and full accounts, with marginal relief, capital allowances and losses worked out.

Directors' loans

We spot loans to directors and prepare the CT600A page when one is needed.

Deadline reminders

Accounts are due 9 months after your year end and tax is payable 9 months and 1 day after. We remind you well before both.

Next year, faster

Your figures roll forward as last year's comparatives, so the second year takes a fraction of the time.

Your records, kept

Every file you sent and every receipt, stored for at least six years.

You stay in charge

Your company, your figures, your sign-off

FileYourOwn prepares and sends your filings. You remain responsible for the figures, as every director is, so you check and approve everything before anything goes anywhere.

  • Nothing is sent until you approve itYou review the key figures and confirm before every submission.
  • You see exactly what goesThe accounts and return you preview are the ones we submit.

Questions

Before you sign up

Is FileYourOwn approved by Companies House and HMRC?

Not yet. Software has to pass testing with both before it can file live returns. We're building FileYourOwn now and will complete that testing before launch. We'll email everyone on the waiting list when it's ready.

Do I need to understand accounting?

No. If you know what your company earned and spent, and what it owns and owes at the year end, you can answer the questions. Each question explains why we ask it.

What if I get something wrong?

Our checks flag figures that don't add up before you submit, and you can amend a return after filing. The figures remain your responsibility as a director, so if your situation is complicated, get advice from an accountant.

Can I use it for this year's return?

We're launching for HMRC returns first, because HMRC already requires software. Join the waiting list and we'll tell you as soon as you can file.

Be first to file your own, and save £20 on your first year.
